The Impressionist Claude Monet (1840-1926) began planting a spectacular water garden in 1893 by his home in Giverny, France, which was to become the focus of his later works. 'The Water-Lily Pond' (1899), from the collection of London's National Gallery, has become one of the best known examples of this period.

The detail featured in this tie from Fox and Chave shows close up the waterlilies floating on the surface of the water with reflections of the trees behind.
