Grief Art Print

In his late works Jack B. Yeats explored human subjects and universal themes. In Grief, one of his most emotive paintings, he communicates his abhorrence of war and conflict through expressive brushwork and intense colour. Crowds of indigo-coloured soldiers surge forward ahead of their leader, who rides a white horse. In the foreground an old man with white hair is seen in profile. He crouches, looking at his hands. To the right, a woman protects a fair-haired child. His hands and lower body are red with blood. Behind them, houses glow with orange flames.
