Guercino and Gris: Conserving Canvas from Different Eras
This book is a proud product of the collaborative efforts between the National Gallery of Ireland and the Getty Museum, made possible through the generous support of the Getty Foundation.
Since 2018, the Getty Foundation has awarded 31 grants to 26 recipients across Europe, the United States, and Latin America. This initiative ensures that conservators are equipped to care for paintings on canvas supports through comprehensive training, rigorous scientific research, and the dissemination of vital knowledge.
The National Gallery of Ireland is delighted to be among the esteemed recipients of this grant. Our project focuses on the meticulous study and conservation of three remarkable paintings within our collection: two intricate collages on canvas by the renowned cubist artist Juan Gris, and an exquisite oval painting by the Italian old master Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, widely known as Guercino.
