Military Manoeuvres Canvas Print
Military Manoeuvres Canvas Print
These boys, most of whom are barefoot, march in a pretend regimental band. Their home-made instruments comprise buckets, tins, pots, saucepan lids and wooden flutes. They are watched by a girl carrying a basket of ferns, as they tease a soldier wearing the walking-out uniform of the Fourth Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, a regiment based in Ireland during the 1880's. Moynan's narrative scenes of children engaged in playful pastimes often sympathised the poor.
