The Goose Girl Canvas Print
The Goose Girl Canvas Print
This work belongs to a series of pictures of woodland settings painted around Royle's native Sheffield. His wife Lily posed as the girl moving her geese through a bluebell wood in spring. Her lack of expression and the frieze-like composition contribute to the sense of a frozen moment captured on canvas. The flowers' purple tones complement the girl's orange dress, on which sunlight reflects. The paint is quite thickly applied, revealing the influence of French Impressionism.
