The Lilac Phlox, Kilmurry, County Kilkenny Art Print
The Lilac Phlox, Kilmurry, County Kilkenny Art Print
Butler's home and garden at Kilmurry in Thomastown inspired much of her work. Her favourite path lead from the house to a gate in the wall and was bordered by beds of lilac phlox, shown here flowering in late summer. To the right of the gate are yew hedges with seats cut into them, and the gate is framed by an overhanging tree. This accomplished watercolour evokes nostalgia for long, Edwardian summers.
