As long as Maria Euphrosyne can remember, the White Deer has been seen in the woods around the Castle. He is usually seen at dusk. He is majestic and magical. Every year the men talk about hunting and killing the White Deer, but they have never succeeded. Maria thinks that's good. Maria knows that would mean bad luck because he is magical. One must leave the magic alone. It is only for us mortals to view from a distance.
