Early Morning, Connemara Art Print
Early Morning, Connemara Art Print
For over 50 years MacGonigal painted the towns, villages and landscapes of the west of Ireland. In this picture he conveys the rugged, panoramic landscape and rocky coastline of Connemara, with Mannin Bay in the distance. In his later paintings, such as this example, MacGonigal's style became fluid and spontaneous. While the calm sky is smoothly painted, the terrain is rendered in rapid, energetic style, and the whitewashed cottages, rocks, reflections on the bay and outline of the coast sparkle with the texture of oil paint.
